Privacy Policy

Last updated: draft version - review before publishing.

1. What we collect

When you create an account, we collect the email address, handle, display name, and password you provide (your password is stored as a salted hash - we never store or can see your actual password). We also store what you post: comments, reactions, reports, votes, follows, and bookmarks, along with basic activity metadata such as timestamps and IP-derived signals used only for spam and abuse prevention.

2. How we use it

We use your data to operate the platform: authenticating you, displaying your posts and profile, running the reputation and moderation system, sending account-related emails (verification, password reset, and moderation notices), and detecting spam or abusive behavior. We do not sell your personal data to third parties, and we do not use your data to generate or imply financial advice.

3. Cookies and local storage

MarketPulse stores your session (access token, refresh token, and basic profile info) in your browser's local storage so you stay logged in between visits. This data stays on your device and is sent to our API only to authenticate your requests. Clearing your browser storage or logging out removes it.

4. Data retention

We retain account and content data for as long as your account is active. If content is removed by moderation, a record of the moderation action is kept for accountability and appeals. If you'd like your account and associated personal data deleted, contact us using the details below and we will process that request, subject to any content we're required to retain for legal or safety reasons.

5. Third parties

We use a transactional email provider to send verification and password-reset emails, and (optionally) Redis for rate-limiting infrastructure. These providers process data only as needed to deliver that specific service and are not permitted to use your data for their own purposes.

6. Your choices

You can update your name, bio, and avatar at any time from your profile. You can request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data by contacting us. If you're in a region with specific data protection rights (such as the EU/UK GDPR or California's CCPA), those rights apply to you and we will honor valid requests.

7. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the platform evolves. Material changes will be reflected by updating the date at the top of this page.

8. Contact

For any privacy question or data request, reach out via the site operator's support contact listed on the platform.
